Day 21 – Feeling Alive Squatting 205!
I was feeling a bit unsure of myself last night at the gym. I failed to make my Saturday workout again due to A L
OT of overtime. So the doubts were there buzzing around my brain like that nagging mosquito in the summertime that you unsuccessfully try to shoe away from your head. “Should I drop back down to 195?”; “Maybe I should just do the 200 again”; “There’s no way I can do 205 for 20 reps today”. I looked down at my clipboard, then into the mirror. “YOU CAN DO THIS!” I wrote down 205 on the clipboard and started throwing the weights on the bar. Every second that ticked by I seemed to get angrier and angrier that I even had those doubts to begin with. As I climbed under the bar I stared straight ahead into the eyes of the only person in my way. “YOU CAN DO THIS!”
I knocked out 5, and the 5th one came up slow. “I’m struggling at 5?!? This isn’t good”. Anger quickly crushed that thought. Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten. Adrenaline pumping through my veins now. I got to 10. Only 10 left. YOU CAN DO THIS! Over some time I finally got to 15. On my way up my head was turning red, and my left knee wobbled a little. The look in my eye was almost enough to scare myself. The last five reps were pure will-power…but I got them up! Twenty!!! Whoo hooo. The weight slams down into the rack and I drop to my knees almost instantly. What a feeling!
The scale was up as well. I am now 176 lbs. I’m determined to finish this program out strong. There’s no doubt that I will be able to exceed the 225 lb goal for squats, but gaining the full 15 lbs is going to be my real challenge. I just need to stay with the program and most importantly:
EAT CLEAN, AND TRAIN MEAN!
Great job! BTW how does the fiance like the smell of drinking a couple of cups of egg whites a day. Now we know why you are out out working so much. If you wanted to know a real easy way to gain weight, you should have come to the expert in the fam. In my early 20′s, I had this great diet, I called it ‘Beer, Pizza and chicken wings’. Then the last 5 or 6 years, I have been on the ‘this couch in comfy diet’. Both diets seemed to instantly boost my weight 20-30 pounds. If you don’t gain the necessary wait, try the first one, it’s awesome!
